Wakeboarding Tricks - Understanding the Terminology

You may have just begun wakeboarding, or you are thinking of picking it up. In this case you will need to talk to others who are skilled, and of course you don’t want to sound like a dummy! Here are some of the most basic wakeboarding tricks terms to get you started learning.

Air - One of the most important terms in wakeboarding. When you do a trick that sends you flying, we refer to how much ‘air’ you had between you and the water. When someone says you got ‘big air’ it means that you really went high, which is considered good!

Bail - This term describes falling on your wakeboard.

Bindings - This is the rubber boots which are attached to the board that keeps you on the board.

Bone Out - Whenever you perform a trick that involves straightening out your leg, this is what it’s called. By doing a ‘bone out grab’, that means you grab and straighten your leg at the same time.

Digger - This is something you want to avoid, as it means a ‘bad wreck.’

Invert - When a rider flips upside down in the air, that’s an invert.

Nose - The tip of the board that’s closest to the wakeboarding boat is the nose.

Set - A set is basically your ‘turn’ on the wakeboard. Each time a rider takes a turn, he has taken a set.

These are just the very basic terms that you need to know in order to get started learning. Now when you try to talk to somebody who’s already a pro at wakeboarding, you at least should have less communication problems! You may be a complete novice when it comes to wakeboarding, but you don’t have to sound like one!
