Wakeboarding

Those who have heard of wakeboarding, usually get it confused with water skiing. Though these two water sports are similar, there are some definite differences between the two.

Wakeboarding was inspired by water skiing, given the fact that when you wakeboard you are pulled by a boat riding the wakes. However, there are some elements that are also contributed to snowboarding.

Instead of two skis being used in water skiing, one single board is used. You position yourself on the board like you would a snow or skateboard.

Just like snowboarding, there are new tricks and skills developed daily because of the expressiveness of the sport. With a wakeboard, you are able to try out new techniques, unlike long and awkward skis.

For less experienced riders, you would be pulled behind a boat going about 25 miles per hour. However, more experienced riders will request higher speeds. This sport can be unsafe, that is why it is suggested that beginners start at lower rates of speed. When crashes do occur at this rate of speed the outcomes aren’t too harmful.

Depending on how you want to ride the wakes, there are different wakeboards to fit your needs. The variety in boards also includes the board’s length. Some boards are as short as 117 cm, while some can be as long as 150 cm. There are three stage rocker and continuous rocker styles as well.

If you plan on purchasing a wakeboard, there are various manufacturers who supply great boards. Some of the well-known suppliers are Liquid Force, Ronix, Gator Boards, Surge Wakeboards, CWB and Hyperlite.

Wakeboarding is one of the most fun, intense sports around. You should seek at least one opportunity to try it out!
